Reverse engineering

We go to sites, 3D scan or measure and reverse engineer parts from small parts to massive tankers and more.

Reverse engineering on site anywhere in South Africa, or in our workshop.

The part is obsolete

The machine still runs but the component is no longer made, or the supplier no longer exists.

There are no drawings

Legacy equipment arrives with nothing on paper. We produce the drawing set and model you keep.

The design needs improving

A part that keeps failing can be re-specified before it goes back into production.

Any scale

From a bush or bracket through to full tankers and structures, captured in sections and stitched together.

Our process

Five steps from a part in your hand to a replacement in production.

01

Site visit

We come to the plant, establish what has to be captured and work around your shutdown window.

02

Scan and measure

Scanning for overall geometry, hand measurement for critical fits. Wear is recorded so it can be interpreted back to nominal.

03

CAD model

The point cloud becomes a clean parametric solid, so later changes to size, material or fit are straightforward.

04

Drawings and sign-off

Dimensioned drawings with tolerances and material call-outs, checked against the original before anything is cut.

05

Manufacture

The replacement is produced and fit-checked. Single spares or a batch, from the same drawing set.

3D scanning of a military vehicle on site

3D scanning and modelling of a military vehicle

The vehicle had to be captured complete, in service, with no strip-down and no drawings to work from. We scanned the hull, running gear and mounted equipment on site, registered the sections into one point cloud, and built a full 3D model from it. The client received the model and a dimensioned drawing set they now use for spares, armour fitment and modification work — geometry that would have taken weeks to measure by hand, captured in a single visit.

Capabilities

  • On-site 3D scanning of components, assemblies, vessels and structures
  • Hand measurement of critical fits, bores and threads
  • Point-cloud processing and mesh-to-solid conversion
  • 3D CAD part and assembly modelling
  • Manufacturing drawings, tolerancing and material specification
  • Design modification and strengthening of failure-prone parts

Materials worked

Steels, non-ferrous metals, plastics and mould materials — if the part can be measured, we can model it and have it made.

Send us the part

Tell us what the component does and where it sits. We come back with a scope, a lead time and a price.
